CO-OP WEEK: OCTOBER 13-19
Join us in celebrating Co-op Week from Oct. 13 to 19! Co-op Week allows the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) and co-operatives across Canada to share the impact of the co-operative model and reflect on this year’s theme set by Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC): Innovating the Co-operative Way.
We are a different kind of business, finding innovative solutions to issues impacting our communities. From members voting for their boards of directors to sharing profits, we are dedicated to consistently serving and delivering to our members, and ultimately our local communities.

Putting the Seven Co-operative Principles into practice
The co-operative model and seven guiding principles are fundamental to us. We continue to practice these principles today and recognize their importance in distinguishing us as different from our competitors in how we operate:
- Voluntary and open membership: Anyone can become a member. Anyone can become a member. Simply by purchasing a lifetime membership at any of our Saskatoon Co-op locations, you can become part owner of a continually growing and thriving community-minded business.
- Democratic member control: You, as a member, can actively participate in deciding new policies and decision-making.
- Member economic participation: You, as a member, can contribute financially to our co-operative, often by purchasing a share(s). We share profits with our members through patronage allocations. What are patronage, equity and cash back?
- Autonomy and independence: We, as a co-operative, have the freedom to act independently to govern ourselves, control our own affairs and set our own rules of operation as determined by the membership.
- Education, training and information: We provide education and training to members, elected representatives, managers and employees to contribute to the development of our co-operatives.
- Co-operative among co-operatives: We source products and services from co-operatives and work with them to advance the co-operative model and grow communities here and around the world.
- Concern for community: We ensure that we work towards sustainable development of our communities through our economic, environmental and social practices. Check out some of the way we support our communities!Check out some of the way we support our communities!
This year, Saskatoon Co-op is happy to be returning over $14M in patronage to members, and $7.6M in cash.
Thank you for your continued support, and happy Co-op Week!
