Update on Equity Mailing
Update on Equity Mailing
We understand you may have questions and concerns about the potential Canada Post labour disruption and how it impacts your equity cheque and statement. Your Co-op is here to keep you informed.
What's Happening with Canada Post?
On Monday, May 19, 2025, Canada Post received formal strike notices from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), representing approximately 55,000 postal workers nationwide. This notice means a work stoppage could begin at any time. Should a national labour disruption occur, mail and parcels will not be delivered, and Canada Post will not accept new items until the strike concludes.
Your Equity Statement & Cheque
We know your Equity Cheque is important to you, and we understand the frustration a postal disruption can cause.
Here's what you need to know:
- Possible Delay: Unfortunately, a Canada Post strike will directly delay the delivery of your Equity Cheque and Equity Statement.
- Securely Held: In the event of a strike before early June, Saskatoon Co-op will securely hold your equity cheque and statement while monitoring the situation.
- No Individual Pickup: We understand you may be eager to receive your cheque. However, we cannot offer individual cheque pickup at this time.
- Contingency Planning: Our equity cheque mailing is an extensive logistical process that takes over eight weeks (April to June) to finalize, print, and prepare for mailing. With over 100,000 envelopes to process, this was already well underway when the strike notice was issued. We are on track for an early June mailout, and will monitor the situation and update you in the event of a continued labour disruption.
- Other Co-op Equity Cheques: You may have received an equity cheque from another Co-op Association because each Co-op's Board approves patronage following their own Annual General Meeting (AGM) dates, and some may have fewer cheques to process. Our AGM was held on May 13, 2025, and as one of the largest mailouts in Western Canada, the timing of the Canada Post disruption may directly impact our delivery.
What Happens Next?
We are committed to getting your equity cheque and statement to you as soon as possible.
- Delivery in June: Unless work stoppage takes place, our mailout is on track for delivery in early June.
- Continued Monitoring: We are diligently monitoring the situation and sincerely hope for a swift resolution.
- Equity Statements: Can be viewed on the Co-op App. Download it today.
- Updates: We will provide updates right here on our website and through our social media channels should the labour disruption continue or as new information becomes available.
Your Credit Account Statement
The postal disruption will also impact our credit customers and paper account statements. Here's what you need to know:
- Delay Expected: Unfortunately, a Canada Post strike will directly delay the delivery of your credit account statement.
- Available Digitally: We encourage you to switch to digital statements.
- Plan Accordingly: We want to ensure your account remains in good standing. Please remember that timely payments are your responsibility.
- Contact us: To confirm amount owing, or to switch to digital statements, contact credit@saskatoon.crs.
We're Here for You
